Dear Colleagues! Dear Sümeg Fans!

This is the 37th Membrane-Transport Conference, the traditional yearly meeting of the Hungarian research workers dealing with the characteristic features of biological membranes and transport processes through them to be organized again in Sümeg. In the organization of the scientific part of the conference this year, besides the Membrane-Biological Section of the Hungarian Society of Physiology and the György Romhányi Foundation, it is the Membrane Section of the Hungarian Society of Biophysics and the Institute of Biophysics of the Szeged Biological Center of the Hungarian Academy of Science that will also take part actively. The main subject of the conference this year is cardio-vascular processes chosen by the Committee of the Membrane-Transport Conferences. According to the tradition of many years, lessons will be given on the plant-membrane and transport processes as well as on the latest domestic results of membrane biophysics. Of course, it is the pleasure of the organization committee to welcome any lessons and posters in connection with membranes and biological transport processes.

In the recent years, these special fields have presented significant novelties in the biological science both theoretically and concerning the latest applied methods, which will mean a great perspective for development in the near future, in the fields of biotechnology, medical science, pharmaceutical industry and plant protection. On the basis of the experience gained during the last years, it is about 100 participants to be awaited from different specializations.

This occasion, that can be called a jubilee, is a possibility for the researchers working in the widest scale of the Hungarian membrane and transport field to meet not only their colleagues, partners but to have discussions with others working in the peripheries and to meet those whom otherwise it is impossible to speak to because of many other professional activities. The Membrane-Transport Conference has always been a special place for multidisciplinary meetings. There are biochemists, cell biologists, biophysicists, immunologists, geneticists, physiologists, pharmacologists, physicians and pharmacists who can exchange information and widen their knowledge, who can learn and teach. The lecturers or the researchers can bring their young students, Ph.D. candidates, students making their dissertations, in order these young people could make acquaintances, exchange their views with older, more experienced and internationally recognized researchers and professors. A really friendly and familiar atmosphere will always attract here, to the Sümeg Conferences, those who have already experienced the good spirits of these programs. We can just promise everybody not to be disappointed in the professional level and in the cultural events in this year of jubilee.

The venue of the conferencesimilarly to the one organized last year will be Hotel Kapitány. All the lectures, posters and exhibitions can be placed here. Besides this, the comfort of the well-equipped rooms of the four stars hotel is completed with the wellness part (swimming pool, wellness pool, bubble bath, Finnish sauna, infra sauna, soft sauna, steam bath, etc., all in Turkish style surroundings, in the territory of the Kaplidja-Turkish Bath), serving as active relaxation possibilities for the participants. With the atmosphere of the Middle Ages and Eastern style, with its Turkish bath, the new part of the Hotel built in this historical surroundings, offers peacefulness and excellent relaxation for the guests of the four star part of the Hotel, who can use all these services free of charge.
